The Marketing Edit
News, insights and conversations from Iconic Resourcing’s marketing team
Marketing teams are being asked to do a great deal: make sense of data, work across more channels, show commercial impact and still create work that connects with people. Those themes have come through in our recent recruitment conversations and at this year’s CIM Scotland Conference.
In this edition, we share what we’re seeing across the Scottish marketing market, reflect on an energising day with the marketing community, and give you a look at the roles our team has been working on.
The market: breadth of skills, clarity of impact
Marketing hiring remains active across Glasgow, Edinburgh and wider Central Scotland. Recent opportunities have spanned digital marketing, communications, content, generalist marketing and agency account management.
Digital capability continues to feature heavily in briefs, along with CRM, data and the ability to measure campaign performance. Employers also value people who can move confidently between channels and stakeholders. The strongest candidates can explain both what they did and what changed as a result, whether that was stronger engagement, better leads, a smoother customer journey or a more effective way of working.
Hiring decisions are considered, and employers are looking carefully at the match between their needs and a candidate’s experience. For marketers exploring a move, specific examples of outcomes will carry more weight than a long list of tools. For hiring teams, a clear view of the results you need from a role can help you decide which skills are essential and where there is room for someone to grow.
From the CIM Scotland Conference
Smarter. Braver. More human. It was a fitting theme for this year’s CIM Scotland Conference, which brought together more than 120 marketers. Iconic was proud to sponsor the event, and Becky and Lauren joined the audience for a day of ideas and conversation.
The speaker line-up covered a range of perspectives, making it difficult to pick a single highlight. Across the day, the theme offered a useful lens for thinking about modern marketing: using insight to make better decisions, having the confidence to try something different, and remembering the people behind every audience, customer and colleague.
Events like this also give people the chance to step away from their immediate priorities and hear how others are tackling similar challenges. The conversations between sessions were every bit as valuable as the talks.
Thank you to Mercy Abel, Karen Trickett, Nicola Thomson, Luan Wise, Mark Choueke, Benjamin Black and Emily Young for sharing their ideas. And thank you to the CIM Scotland team for bringing so many people in the community together.
